Updating progress in real time is not nearly as cool as updating things weeks after they happened, right? Right.

To bring things up to speed, the month of February brought excavation!!

The basement/footprint of the house is on the front/left and the garage area is on the right/back of the photo. The amount of dirt on the perimeter is no joke...this picture was taken standing on to of a massive(massive!!) dirt pile.

It was really fun to watch the excavators do their work- they are very skilled at what they do!  They made the walls and floor so straight and smooth. We were quite impressed.

After the digging was finished, we went to the lot (do we still call it a lot? or is it a hole now?) and walked in the 'basement' to see our house plans in a more 3D-type setting.  We may have brought the tape measure to see exactly how big each room will be...
Seeing the footprint of the garages was also a fun milestone- excited for S to have his dream garage!

The beginning

....and so it begins!  There's a lot of story to this story, but the nuts and bolts are that we purchased our lot in May of 2016(after having stalked it for about 9 months before getting a contract on it.)  The construction loan process was a bit of a long one for us, but now in January of 2017 we are ready to get started! The above (glamorous) pictures are the very beginning of starting construction on our house.  There is a construction fence to contain dust around the perimeter, a wattle(the stuffed rope looking thing) that prevents run off from going to the street and storm drains, and finally, theres a gravel driveway for the work trucks to drive on.  We are so excited by even these little things because they are a marker of progress and the true beginning of great things to come! Not pictured is the portapotty for workers. Insert poop joke here. The design and planning process has been in the works for quite some time, but that's another post for another day.
